War of Monsters, I never heard about the game until I saw the army commercial for it so i gave it a try.
Graphics 8-10: Its nothing truely amazing like some games out now. Its actually kind of cheap looking but matches the game perfectly. Its based on all the old movies like King Kong and what not. There is I BELIEVE 12 characters but dont mark me on that. There are 4 costumes for each character, 3 unlockable multiplayer modes, 4 unlockable levels and if you have Twisted Metal Black saved on your memory card you get a special SWEET TOOTH costume for one of the characters(cant remember his name but its a huge monster made out of stones). Its nothing that will knock you off your feet as far as graphics.
Gameplay (single) 7-10: Its probably should be rated higher but I played on the easy level and beat the game within an hour. You travel to differant areas and fight differant monsters and proceed to the next level. Each level you pass you are awarded a certain amount of tokens to unlock costumes, levels and mini game modes and characters. The last scene reminded me a lot of When Mars Attacks because you are fighting at the White House against a huge....well I dont want to give everything away ;). Its not great for its single story but you can play endurance which does get boring after awhile (You have 1 life and fight as many monsters until you die)
Gameplay (multi) 9-10: Truely one of my favorite brawlers. I own Super Smash Bros and Godzilla Destroy all Monsters and I would probably saw War of Monsters is one of my favorites. I love the idea of total chaos in destroying buildings, hurling debris at your opponents or spearing them with communication towers. It does require some talent since you have to plan your moves when you are playing against 3 other members. Multi on this game is quite great and you can play games like Dodgeball on this!!
Replayability: Well short and simple, it will last until the next best brawler comes out
Bottom Line: Great sleeper hit with almost nobody showing what the game is. Ive only seen commercials for this game at the most 4 times since it came out. If it wasnt for a topic I read I would have never known of this game and watched out for it on tv. Its a great multi game but only 2 players since its PS2. Single is fun but I recommend the game for multi (like most brawlers) Only $39 at stores and I highly recommend if you want a great brawler to your PS2 collection
