This is the kind of RPG Strategy I've been waiting for. Before playing this game, I thought it would be another so-so attempt to compete with the Tactics Ogre series (before I found out Fire Emblem practically STARTED the console Strategy genre) and so I didn't expect much from it. But this game simply blew me away. Fire Emblem is a true masterpiece - an addictive and thrilling experience that, as an RPG Strategy game has almost all the things that I wished the others I played had.
Even though the storyline is nothing to write home about, the characters are fantastic. I actually cared about my characters, because they all had a personality and a "voice" - not like the recruitable "nobodys" in Tactics Ogre or Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. And that truly means a lot when it comes to getting hooked into the game, and it even alters your decisions about what risks you take in battle, just because you don't want to see them die.
The battle system is really great, too. There is definitely a lot more planning and strategic cunning required to beat one chapter while getting everything out of it. Fire Emblem isn't very difficult, but I'd certainly say it's moderate enough to be fun and a bit challenging too. It's one of those games that you could play for hours and wonder where the time went.
Overall, Fire Emblem is an absolutely amazing game and I regret not getting into the series earlier. With fantastic animations, music, characters, and a great battle system to boot, how could you go wrong?
