The first sequel to one of my favorite games. Though it does improve on many things in the series I don't like some of the new improvements. First , you now get new ships in the game as you progress , and while this does make sense (missions get harder , ships get better) , one of the things I liked about the first game was that you were given ships that applied for the situation. Second , the difficulty is considerably off balance (some early missions are waaaaaay too hard but the last boss seemed waaaay too easy) maybe this was to make up for the insane difficulty of the last boss in the first game.Third , the new secondary weapons , the pods , are virtually worthless. You could kill a guy faster than to set up the attack pod , the defense pod doesn't defend enough and you never get the repair pod when you could really use it.
It sounds like I'm really ragging the game but I do like it. The new leech beam is quite cool , the graphics and music are still great , and the new sentinel enemies (though hard) are very intimadating. Overall a great sequel for a great game , though you may want to play the first game before you try this one , you'll probably enjoy it more.
