Armada is set in the distant future when humans have spread throughout the galaxy. However, they all re-unite in hopes of defeating or communicating with a common enemy, the Armada.
As one of the different human tribes, each with different ships and powers, you must battle the Armada and complete different missions. During this time you collect experience and credits to upgrade you craft to better challenge the never-ending tide of Armanda ships. This is one of the problems with Armada, the tide of ships IS never-ending! It doesn't matter if you defeat a high-level Armada capital ship that is dominating a certain quadrant, the amount of ships never decreases in that area. This makes it feel like you are never making any real progress. Also, the length of time that it takes to raise levels and acquire credits is unreasonably long. Raising levels in a standard RPG is tedious enough but with an infinite amount of unrelenting enemies, it is just plain annoying.
One of Armadas better features is multi-player support. However, when you get the full 4 players engaged, it is hard to tell if you are coming or going and even slowdown rears its ugly head.
Armada should appeal to the shooter aficionado and while its gameplay is not seriously flawed, it could have been executed in a better fashion.
