When gamers complain that the U.S. never receives any mature games directed at the over 17 audience, I always correct them and point them proudly in the direction of the Deception series. The Deception games have taken gothic horror and bloodletting to unbelievable degrees and Deception 3 is no exception.
The whole looks, sound, and feel of Deception 3 is amazing. The characters and the costumes they wear look straight out of the Victorian age and the graphics themselves are finely detailed. The music is magnificent and blows everything this side of Castlevania away when it comes to setting a dark mood.
If you have never played a Deception game before, the basic idea is to set traps and kill the enemies before they kill you. While not quite as unrepentant in its violence as the earlier Deception games, the gore is still present and just as prominent. More importantly, the gameplay is still as twisted and fun as it always was.
Deception 3 does have a few issues with the gameplay. Viewing where each trap is set and telling when to activate it can be a problem with the camera. Also, the lack of voice-overs draws you out of the game while everything else is working so hard to pull you in.
Deception 3 doesn't stray far from its past formula but the improvements are enough to warrant a purchase As long as the sight of a little blood doesn't make you queasy.
