The best Grand Theft Auto yet!
Really, it has improved which comes as a surprise to me since I thought Vice City was a step backwards for the series. The graphics have improved although it's only a minimal. But they look more "lively" for lack of a better word than the games in the past.
I love the 90's theme to it as well the music which I think is the best to date. The new "sims" like addition is a welcome. Not what you expect, the new abilities such as eating and weight training is actually fun. And it never gets old as it's not too demanding. Now having said that, the game is not without it's flaws. The game is actually buggier than any of the previous games. The frame rate suffers more than ever, the hiccups are even worse than before. This is probably due to the PS2's hardware limitations. It is mind boggling to me how "professional" reviews are over looking these issues. They sure scrutinize other games for these very same issues but some how they let it slide for this game.
The vehicle controls have always been good but my beef has always been with the "on foot" controls. Mainly the targetting system which has improved in this game. It's a lot better now but it still sort of sucks in the end, and couple this with the camera. Which has also improved but it's still a pain. With all this said, fans of the series will love this game, maybe even more than past titles. But for those who have never "dug" the GTA games, I don't think you will enjoy this game any better than it's predecesors.
I give this game an overall 8.
Even with it's technical flaws, it's still a good game. The story to me is more interesting than previous games.
Can't wait till this drops on the Xbox and PC in 6 months. Most of the bugs should be ironed out by then, along with some graphical improvements....
