My absolute most beloved Playstation game of all time, my absolute most beloved Final Fantasy title of all time, and my absolute most beloved role-playing game of all time bare the same name – Final Fantasy Tactics. No game is nearer or dearer to my heart than Final Fantasy Tactics, and with good reason - it is one of the only console RPGs able to be carried by the strength of its gameplay alone, yet still remains very much story-driven. Weaving a tale of betrayal, murder, and political intrigue straight out of classic literature, Final Fantasy Tactics boasts deeply rewarding gameplay that rivals anything in its class, one of the most spectacular soundtracks ever recorded, and a classic visual style with a timeless charm all its own. It is the only game of its length I have ever completed enough times to number in the double digits, the only game of its length I get excited about restarting rather than overwhelmed, and the only game of its length I find myself completing on an annual basis. If I were stockpiling games in a bomb-shelter in the advent of a nuclear holocaust, few, if any, would take precedence over Final Fantasy Tactics.
