Why am I one of the few people that actually tried this game? Why am I the first person to review this game? Shame on you because you missed out on what could possibly be the best platformer of 2003.
I guess you CAN call this your typical platforming game, with the standard item-collection and levels that you access through a hub, but it's execution goes beyond most other platformers.
First up is Vexx himself, who is much darker than your usual cuddly platforming hero and he gets use these deadly claws that give him much more combat options than what is found in other platforming games. Combos, juggles combos, uppercuts, air attacks and etc are all at your disposal. This might be one of the reasons this game is rated Teen (a little unfair, in my opinion), and you'lll probably agree that being rated Teen alone separates this game from other platformers.
Next up are the gorgeous worlds that Vexx gets to explore. To put it simply, they are sprawling and imaginative. I can't really do them justice with mere words, so you'll have to see them for yourself. The level design really tests your platforming skills and they just add to the fun of the game.
As fun as this game is, controlling the camera following Vexx isn't. The camera can't move through obstructions and so sometimes the camera is locked at a bad angle and there is really nothing you can do. The camera is definately annoying but Vexx is still game worth buying or at lest checking out if you are into platformers. It's not as good as Super Mario Sunshine but it's close.
