Game has a lot of positives that make it unique and not just a GTA clone. However, since the game inevitably will be compared to GTA, and people will want to know how it compares to GTA...I'll go there. I like the gun and fight modules better than GTA because you can put a little thought into any mission objective. The branching story line is original, and will give the game a nice replayability factor. I am however slightly disappointed in the driving module as you can only look in front or behind you and not to the side, making it difficult to take out a perp who is next to your car, or to look around the city as you drive and see what you're driving past. I've been T-boned numerous times coming out of gas stations in my shiny new repaired car cause I could not look left into oncoming traffic. (Don't worry, they did not have the chance to do it to anybody else) Also as far as driving, the LA recreation is awesome and accurate (My girl's apartment is a fairly close resemblance...and I stop by often) and obviously a difficult task, but sacrificed was giving the extensive areas a "unique look". After a while you feel like your driving against the backdrop of a cartoon, as all the scenery starts to look the same. If it wasn't for the street signs, you'd have no idea where you were. Given that it is 250+ square miles, it's understandable. (as a sidenote: the obvious billboard dogging on RockStar is not cool...it's like copying somebody's test in class then kicking them on the way out of the classroom, not cool) Music is great, and the sountrack list extensive, but I found myself hearing certain songs a lot more than others. Hmmm. Definitely worth buying...if you're on the fence, I'd rent first. For the GTA faithful, it does not have the "feel" of GTA, and you know what I mean. Enjoy True Crime for what it is, not what it's not.
