What happened here?
Master of Orion II set the standard for galactic empire games and I thought I'd have an enhanced, updated version of that game on my hands once I bought this one.
I'm simply disappointed by this game.
The graphics are lackluster, the interface is terrible and the overall format is confusing. Even the tutorial is badly done and boring.
The worst thing about this game is that it's basically a menu driven game with graphics thrown in. To get to anything you have to dig through menu click after menu click with several things popping up around your screen each time.
For the life of me, I couldn't figure out where the ships I created were going. Finally I found something about a queue but still it took time to figure out that I had to group these squadrons to use them. There is also no overall screen showing all of your planets with easy to see problems, etc.
The game is NOT intuitive.
The progress reports are long, strangely worded, and confusing. You'll find yourself switching back and forth to take care of things instead of moving seamlessly from screen to screen with some sort of ergonomic ease.
I have no idea why the authors chose to drown the user in minutiae and a badly formed interface instead of sticking to what was good about Master of Orion II and improving upon it.
Unfortunately, I can't give this game anything more than a 5.
