From what I have heard, the development of this game began on the SNES and was switched to the Saturn. As such, it is a very SNESy sort of game.
The Prior Albert Odyssey's on the SNES that I am aquainted with are turn based strategy RPG's like Shining Force. This game is a standard RPG with random battles, mode 7 overworld, and top down dungeons and towns. Other than the atrocious overworld, I love the beautiful 2D graphics of this game, all the hand drawn beauty of an SNES game, in the high resolution and color depth of the Saturn.
If you need more from your games than what is provided in traditional Dragon Warrior style RPG's, then you probably will not find this game to your liking. If you find yourself playing newer games and longing for the basics and the simplicity of the fun games from your childhood, you might want to give this game a try. I would say that if you are a fan of the simpler days of RPG's, you will enjoy this game and if you need to fusion things to your weapons and search through huge sidequests to get the best summons that can be enhanced with a secret blacksmith/mithral quest... you would likely find this game to be boring.
On last note, Working Designs translated this game... and it is a very typical example of thier work, if you can't stand thier juvenille work, don't bother with this game. I don't like them one bit, but I just pretend that the characters said something else that didn't have to do with sex or pop culture and move on, which works for me.
