Evolution may not be a long game or a game that explores deep social issues in a huge epic world full of towns and secrets, but it does succeed rather well at what it sets out to be: a rather fun, light RPG that is very enjoyable. The game has a few flaws, chief among these IMO is the fact that the enemies tend to get stonger as you do because they match your level at the start of the dungeons, but this is mostly offset by the fact that while they might also be level 28, they did not find and equip and cool new cyframe or a lovely pair of spiked heels. The gameplay is overall easy, but I did have some trouble with the final boss which was solved by some additional leveling. The characters are very interesting and full of cute personality, one thing I like is likable characters, rather than all of those jerky grumps that some companies put in all of their games anymore. The dungeons are randomly generated, which very much appeals to me, I enjoy going through the areas as many times as I wish to find all new and totally random loot. This allows you to get lucky and find something really cool and to play as much as you want to try to get all of the stuff in the game if you enjoy that sort of thing, which I do. The second Evolution was upgraded in many ways, and although I enjoyed some things about it more than this game, I missed the random dungeons that give you such a motivation to keep going. The story of Evolution is good and I enjoy watching all of the cutscenes, which often tend to be quite humorous. The FMV is beautiful and the graphics in the game range from average to very good, but when it first came out they were quite impressive. The battles are the highlight of the graphics with only a few spells, such as Linear's first aid looking anything other than DC quality. Since this game is so cheap now and will give most players about 20 hours of enjoyment (unless you keep playing in the sort of post game quest, which adds another 5 or so hours onto the game), I recommend this game for all DC owning RPG fans. I hope that you too discover the secret of Evolution.
