FEAR is an action packed shooting spree that takes place in a spooky paranormal setting. The graphics are gorgeous, but you'll need a monstorous machine to see the crisp bump mapped textures, the softly rendered shadows, and spectacular lighting effects. The surround sound design will easily suck you into the games cathartic atmosphere. You can sense the bullet casings pelting the ground around you, and you could hear the enmies meticulously moving around to forcibly send you to god. The sound design is so well done that you'd forget that you are in your own room. The gun battles in this game are fierce, but before engaging the enemies, dont forget about using slo-mo. The enemy AI is frustratingly amazing because they'll flank you, hide behind corners and take pot shots at you, retreat if you engage them in close quarters, jump through windows to hide from your presence, and if you hide from them, they'll hunt your ass down.
The exceptions to this game are the lack of interesting enviroments, and your need for a kick ass computer, if you don't have one that is. The enviroments aren't bad, but they get uninteresting after marauding throughout the same office building for half the game. I love office buildings, but I have no interest in looking at the same office furnisher and moderatley altered floor layout, level after level. And if your a guy that hasn't updated your PC in 2 years, FEAR won't be too user friendly on your crappy computer. The game will look good, but you'll be running it at medim details at 640 x 480 just to get consistent frame rates. You'll also be missing out on how amazing this game looks.
FEAR is an excellent game, and if you do have a machine that can run the game at minimum requirements, and you enjoy heart stopping first person shooters, buy the game still. I'd put FEAR in the same league as Half Life 2, Doom 3, and any other highly acclaimed first person shooter.
