Oni is a gracious and a beautiful thing... and I refer to the game when I say this. Right from the start this title will grab you with how elaborate it is. The thoroughness, depth and acuteness of the design is overwhelming. Oni can easily be classified as a futuristic epic. I will place Oni in the bin of titles like MGS2 and Splinter Cell, it definitely feels like a precursor for both of these. Oni is one of the toughest games I've played and there's no shame in admitting that I barely made it past the first several levels only. The training mode alone is tough to master; the combos, moves and weapons at your disposal feel infinite.
While it has enough melee action, Oni is a brain-teaser above all. Learning the best sequence of attacking enemies and exploring the environment is what will keep you alive (the Mark of Kri is another game with a similar concept). The enemy AI is superb – you will die your fair share of times and this is at the early stages also. The camera work is flawless, as I mentioned Oni does a myriad of moves and during them all the camera angle remains outstanding.
The storyline is deep and polished – you are a government agent that tries to uncover a futuristic conspiracy, and the genre is 3p action with heavy elements of problem solving. Net net Oni will have you hooked in no time, the one drawback of this title is how difficult it is. If you can look past its steep learning curve though (if you are a true gamer the toughness should be a plus, not a minus), you're in for a ton of fun. I guess the people who know how to make quality games keep making them.
