Fever 2002 puts a nostalgic smile on my face - it was such an exciting time when I got it with my Xbox. I would play the game forever (of course only with the Patriots) until I won several consecutive Superbowls. Overall it was a rewarding and fun experience.
Through the lens of football gaming today - Fever 2002 is a mediocre game at best. Fever 2002 is too arcadish, with scant offseason features; it has zero online capabilities and graphics that are elementary. The title is a first generation Xbox game and it shows in the underwhelming overall feel and polish of gameplay.
Despite the above criticism Fever 2002 had one big advantage that compels me to rate this installment with the highest mark of the Fever franchise. Fever 2002 took the market by surprise. It was exponentially better than Microsoft's previous PC football games and hit a niche in the young Xbox market unoccupied (yet) by EA and Sega.
Fever 2002 was a fun overachieving for its time game from Microsoft that in retrospect failed to challendge the long-term Madden dominance of the genre.
