I better post my review on Gotham 1 before Gotham 2 comes out. I guess I have grown to take Gotham for granted by remaining silent for so long, but homage needs to be paid where homage is due.
Gotham is the single best racer I have played. The game works on a variety of levels and manages to hook its nasty claws in you so that you are hopelessly addicted before you know it.
First things first - Gotham is an incredibly tough game - it's biggest strength is its biggest weakness. You have to grow with the game and learn it before you can master it (similar to Prime, Vice City and Halo). You can key in the cheatcode and unlock the most powerful cars from the get-go but if even if you do so you wouldnt know how to handle them because you havent graduated from Gotham University yet. The much better (funner) alternative is to learn with the game as you go, unlock each car in a stepwise function until you finally have the game beaten. And I guarantee you it will feel like some of the sweetest accomplishments you've achieved. In summary the gameplay is tough, fantastic, evolutionary and varied (kudos, styling, racing, endurance, etc).
The graphics and soundtrack (customizable if you prefer) add to the merits of the title. The multiplayer mode is the frosting on the cake; I have yet to meet a gamer yet - regardless of their age and genre preference that didnt have a hoot playing Gotham with their buddies. Gotham is a masterpiece and it's a steal for $19.99.
