Maxis has been giving us city building experience like no other for the last few years.It has to be said that it has been really wonderful experiencing all of it.The Simcity series is one of the best series of sim games.Right through from Simcity thru SC2K and also SC3K, the joy of city building has just gone a little bit higher. But Maxis is trying to top that with this new version.
SC4 promises to be one of the best sim games yet in the gaming Industry. Yes the amount of detail and effort put into this game is truly amazing.Well If you dont believe me, You have to check the official website for the developer ntes which gives a fair insight into the game. Here are a few features which will be sported in the new simcity and each of them are cool:
- First time in Simcity series a game with day-night cycles.
- Special effects like no other!.Simcity uses advanced lighting and fogging to give amazing visual quality(check out the screen shots at the website).
- Advisors imported from other games like The Sims and Sims Online.
- Sims who actually move around with a purpose going through daily routines.
- Traffic actually moves towards work places during morning and in the opposite direction at night.
- The Night time city looks cool woth all the streetlights on!
Those were just some of the features which are promised in the simcity4. However the most impressive part is the graphics Engine. Maxis claims that, to render all that stuff in the city in realtime would take insane amount of time even on the present generation processors and Graphics Cards. So what have they done? Well the crooked minds think different. Thes stuffs are Prerendered onto an offscreen surface and only the changed parts of the image are updated. This takes a lot of doing but they have done it. Using advanced techniques mentioned somewhere in their notes. Thats the reason why we will not be able to walk the streets of simcity even this time around. But it is a good bargain for such a good game. So is the new simcity 3D? Well Kinda yes kinda no! But they have pulled it off to try and give us a beautiul game.
The most important part is however the gameplay. Well most of us simmers already know the traditional gameplay of simcity. But Maxis is trying to add in new features which will make the game even more open ended. User Interface is definitely going to have a face-lift and good enhancements to provide good accesability. There are twice as many number of buildings in SC4 than in SC3K. Also if two house even though show up with the same model they will look much different as they will have different props(Patio,Driveway,Clothesline, Barbeque or such things) to ensure variety.
