From the start Beyond Good and Evil just oozes quality! It's cartoon style graphics are nothing short of breathtaking, with eyecandy that the likes of Pixar would be proud. The game play is impossible to latch down to one genre as the main character Jade can do so many varied things. In the first hours play, it is possible to fight in hand to hand combat, Race a hovercraft, play arcade style games with the other patrons of the game, solve puzzles, and run around platform style through some of the levels. Add to that the brilliant way Ubisoft have integrated the common 'camera' as your source for money and quest helper, and what you have here is a game that I seriously believe almost no one could stick thier nose up at. The game is unbelievably well polished, and a real treat to play. I would be as bold as to say that nothing, and I mean nothing, even comes close to the scope and 'fun' that BGE is to play, it's VERY VERY original.
Then comes the voice acting! Wow! Lucas arts have some good voice actors. Ubisoft, in my opinion have the best. I am always disapointed when characters in games speak (look at spellforce to see what I mean) they are usually taken off the street and asked to read a few lines from a card, i'm sure of it. But not here, Ubisoft's voice actors are exceptional!
So is there anything wrong with it? Well yes there is unfortunately, although there does seem to be a review that has a completely oposing view to this, so maybe its a matter of opinion...
The camera view can suck so bad that you will want to cry! Actually no, let me be fair its not THAT bad, but sometimes it can really, really get annoying. For instance... In the heat of battle in a small room the camera 'can' be an absolute nightmare, but other times its fine. Sometimes you cant move the camera until you move further into a room, which is fine if you know whats there!
Also there is a MAJOR bug in the game that Ubisoft seem to be completely ignoring (and yes it happened to me so I KNOW it exists)
In the slaughterhouse you need to kill some robots to get a key, the bug wont allow the key to appear!!!
Fortunately there IS a patch and it DOES work (just look on the forums) but it is not by Ubisoft themselves although hundreds upon hundreds of people seem to have the same issue! I find this odd as the game is so incredibly well designed, layed out, storyboarded, acted, polished etc...
But ho hum...
BGE is worthy of a 90% the only reason it drops from 100 at all is for a bug that really should be fixed!
