Grandia 2 is a very fun game with fantastic graphics, and an innovative battle system. I just felt that the whole game kinda dragged itself onward half of the time. It never really pushed you to attain more.
To start off, the main characters voice is VERY annoying. He's kinda whiny, complains a bit too much, and just tries to be something he's not. Besides him, i really liked all of the other characters. They all had their own personalities, did their own thing, and always offered insight as to what course of action could be taken. If only this story could have been done from a different perspective.
The battle system is the highlight of this game. Each combatant on the battle field runs off of a sort of timer. When you cast magic and special attacks, your timer goes a bit slower before you can actually cast the spell. An enemy (or you if an enemy is casting the spell) can attempt to reset your timer if they can hit you with certain moves. It can get quite intense. Combos also factor in to the battle system. If you can get some of your characters to chain attacks together, you can inflict more damage, and earn extra items. It's quite rewarding.
Unfortunately, the story, and the main character bog down the battle system. If it wasn't for that, this game would be incredible. But it just has so much not going for it. Still, it's a solid buy.
