I guess thats what I get for reading into reviews such as IGN and the likes. If you want to see how a game is you actually have to play it instead of relying on other people to play it...wow what an idea! Actually smokecells review fits this game the best. This game grows on you the more you play. It starts out kinda slow and you aren't that familiar with the controls and not too sure what the hell you are doing. But once guns are introduced to you and you start familiarizing with them, the game gets a lot smoother. I played this game when I first got it for about 2 hours and thought it was a disappointment...yeah 2 hours :o
It was fate that I went back to playing this. My GTA:SA disc is unplayable cause the disc has an imperfection on it thats preventing me to play it..so I started playing this game thinking it was going to be your short typical FPS...boy was I so ever wrong with that. I posted my stats in Metals "stats thread" I logged in at 113 hours on campaign...yeah 113 has to be wrong..there is no way I spent that long....or did I? I easily spent 20 hours the past 3 days to the ending. Im a big MOH fan and Im very familiar with the game play in those type of games. The path in which you take is very small. In killzone I noticed the path in which you take from point A to point B is very wide..at times I got turned around and went the wrong way cause of this freedom.The frame rates didn't dip below the norm..it didn't lag or chug..I thought the frame rate was quite smooth for having so much happening on the screen.
I don't remember how long it was until you unlocked the character Lugar but it took a while to get to her...yes Lugar is a she and shes a badass sniper! If you play as her you'll notice shes very fast but I found myself dying with her a lot. You have to have patience when playing as Lugar...something I don't have with a FPS :) Not too long after you unlock Lugar you unlock Rico...a big baddy that likes to cuss a lot. Rico was my favorite character to use since he was skilled at heavy weaponry. After Rico comes some half human half Helghast..cant remember his name but he is on your side and can do things only he can do since he is half helghast. The farther you get in the game the tougher the enemies become....actually you'll start talking to your game as you shoot 400 bullets into some of these guys...like close to the end there are these guys called "bodyguards".." wtf I just put 400 bullets in his head! why isn't he dead!" Thats common when playing this game.
The online part of this game is a good change of pace from SOCOM. Ive played 6 hours online and have encountered 0 lag and 100% fun. Although getting spawned killed really sucks. If you wanted you could set this game up to play like SOCOM. Make a game of assault and defend...i think thats what its called. Set the spawn for 1 life...voila! just like socom..you destroy the other teams generators.
