Is there anyone this game doesn't appeal too? Like fast cars? Like big guns? Like your women hotter than you weather?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then this is a game that will appeal to you. GTA Vice City is a game with so many elements that it appeals to so many gamers, and just never seems to run out of use. The 80's Malibu style setting and map, is easily as large as the GTA 3 map, and even seems to have more things to do (Though it is still the 80's =(.
This time round the number of cars seems to have increased, so many more weapons, and the missions are just so varied (With one of the groups, the missions go from dropping bombs from a remote controlled plane, to sniping one side of a gang war. No more boring drive here drive there missions for me =)
The controls and movement have remained much the same gta3, but small things such as running speed and length have improved, making things such as foot travelling less tedious.
The graphics are sharper and brighter than its previous incarnation, but i must admit that i'm not a fan of 'trails' (where everything seems to blur, and you could swear you hadn't drunk that much). This can be turned off, but this really sucks the vibrant colours out of the city surrounds.
Another noticeable quality of the game is the sound. Not only are the sound effects superb, but the soundtracks are fully licenced, with artists such as Micheal Jackson even being heard in there. Of course the ever classy Talk back radio channel makes its return, giving a chuckle every so often.
One of the main additions in this game (apart from the setting) is the ability to purchase real estate. I must say i really enjoyed this, for not only can you have multiple save points all over the city, but you can actually walk in to some that you own, and interact with you customers (yes, some of them do make you money). They even allow you to have multiple garages in the city.
All in all this is a great game, but not perfect by any means. The trails on the graphics i find slightly annoying, and personally i'm not a fan of the 80's. I like fast, small japenese cars and the like, the slick rounded style of a modern vechile. I like my music loud and Duff (long live Gabbacore!), and this game doesn't provide. Whilst the setting seems true to the period, i much prefered the modern day setting and extras of gta3. Even so, this is a solid game which appeals to all on some level; if not a little overhyped and over rated. I would give it 9/10 it should get, but shoulder pads and electro synth just isn't my thing.
