Eternal Darkness proves that a pychological adventure/action game can be done. And it was done quite beautifully. The story is complex but that just adds to the game.
You start out as Alex Roivas, a woman who just found out that her grandfather has been murdered and the police have no idea who or what did it.
Alex must find out why her grandfather was murdered and who did it. But she ends finding out a lot more than she bargained for. You as the gamer have to play as many different people throughout history and stop and evil being that is trying to destroy all of humanity. E.D. uses magical spells that you must put together by finding special rune tablets. The spells help you defeat some monsters or give you powerups. Also when you first start the game you must choose what color you are playing as: green, red, or blue. Different magical spells have different colors and you will be more powerful in those spells with the same color you chose at the beginning.
The insanity meter if great, if you encounter a monster you insanity meter goes down. The lower your meter gets the more crazy things start to happen. You may get a message on the screen saying your controller is not plugged in or the screen may go completely balck like you lost power. Theses effects are great but there are not enough. Your insanity meter goes down quite often and you experience a lot of these effects.
Eternal Darkness is a really good game that can mess with your head. The playcontrol is good and the graphics are average. But this game, so far, is one of a kind and should be bought and played. And don't forget to beat the game under all three colors, the ones you choose at the beginning of the game, to get the real and final ending.
