Sim Golf is THE best golf course managment game out there.  Although, there is not much competition, it does leave Golf Resort Tycoon 1 and 2 in the dust.

The basic story is that your uncle Harry has recently died and has left you with lots of money, and you promised him to build great golf resorts all around the world.  So what if it's a weak story, a game like this does not require a good story line.  You start out with some money, buy some property and get to work...

Gameplay: VERY fun.  You will spend countless hours making more holes, and adding things like snack bars and driving ranges.  The game is very relaxing.  The interface is very much like "the sims" as far as when your scrolling through stuff to buy at the bottom of the screen.  It makes since that its like the sims, because some of the development crew of the sims came and helped out Sid Meier.  (and the menus work just as good as they did in the sims) The holes are VERY customizable, (unlike golf resort tycooon, where you can't even control how long the holes are, or place stuff in the fairway, and they all just looked the same) You are rewarded with variety and imagination.  You can add things to each hole such as water, rocks, bunkers, deep bunkers, trees galore, and many other objects as well.  The fact that the holes are so customizable make the game interesting for MUCH longer.  Infinite number of combinations for holes.  And, unlike golf resort tycoon, you can't just plop down a hole in any way and get away with it.  Each hole must be thought about, taking into consideration that you want to reward power hittings, and accurate players.  All this while making it scenic, and trying to get the golfers to think about each hole, not just whack away down a straight fairway.  Also, you can put land plots and famous people will move to your courses, which attracts more viewers.  Celebrities such as Mel Gifferdson (Mel Gibson) and Jeniffer Elopes (J-Lo) were the first to move onto my course.  Also, the SGA holds tournaments at your course if it meets their standards.  Next, you can play in them with your custom golfer.  Though the controls are EXTREMELY simple and easy to master, i was surprised at how fun it is to play.  If you win the tournaments you get lots of money, which is where i get most of mine.  Oh yeah, one other neat little option.  Each of the golfers have their own faces, and you the person that you play with in tournaments as well.  You can take/scan a picture of your head and put it on your own golfer, although i have been unseccessful at it, its still pretty neat-o.

Graphics: The courses are always a pleasure to look at, especially if you play golf and respect a good, scenic, golf course.  You can see each individual golfer hitting shots and showing their emotions.  When they hit good shots they shout and celebrate, but when they hit a bad one, they break their clubs.  Sometimes it's just fun to sit back and watch them play your course.  The buildings on your course look real, and trees, water, and any other scenic feature make each golf course look beutiful and unique.  Thought the graphics are not groundbreaking, they're just right.

Sound: Also a strong point of this game.  In so many games theres always a sound that happens often, and it bugs the heck out of you after a while.  Not in this game, each sound comes right when needed, and although repetitive, they never get tiresome.  Players talk to each other in sim language (as in "the sims") and the sounds always sound perfect when your setting objects onto you course.

Lasting Appeal: I've played this game forever, and i'm still obsessed.  I forsee many sleepless nights in front of my comptuer with this game.  Sim games are so much different than say, action games.  Once you beat action games, its over.  While in sim games it goes on and on, you can always get better.

Overall: Simply put, one of the best sims out there.

Cons: Very few of them.  It's hard to explain, especially if you don't play golf, but on each hole the computer automatically designates a path for the golfers to hit their balls.  Although you can alter it with fairways, it would be nice if you could customize the route of the golfers hits a little more.  This is a small complaint.  The only other complaint is that you can't click on your stores such as a snack bar or driving range and see how many people have visited, and how much profit you have made from the building.
