Where Super Mario 64 was revolutionary, Super Mario Sunshine is evolutionary. This game more or less feels exactly like the phenominal Super Mario 64.
The Graphics are crisp and beautiful. The environments are absolutly gorgeous. The characters also looks great, the designs stick to the usual theme that Nintendo started in its N64 era. There are also a number of great effects to look at. A visual treat this game is indeed.
The gameplay is extremely similiar to Super Mario 64. Things such as jumping, basic controls, gameplay design, all come from Mario 64. However, an tropical island now serves as the purpose the castle did in Mario 64. You can wander around the island resort as enter worlds through there. There are a wide variety of world that all oddly look similiar. There are also "Shines" (instead of stars) to collect that will open up new worlds. However, while things like jumping are all intact, a warer tank on Mario's back open up new gameplay features, and the water pack is the only siginicant change in gameplay. During some levels, the water pack is used to clean up muck and otehr filth on the island.
The sound is somewhat very odd.
All in All, Mario Sunshine is a good platformer, while not revolutionary, its still highly entertaining.
