Breath of Fire is a phenomenal RPG with a breath-taking story and amazing design.  One thing that may turn some people off though is the difficultly in the beginning.  This RPG for me at least wasn't a walk in the park; it forced me to die and start over several times before I could break through the beginning and really get into it.

The Graphics are at heart Cel-Shaded.  The Cel-Shading is similar to Dark Cloud 2 in cartoony characters and Non-Cel-Shaded Looking environments.  This kind of design works well in both games.

The Gameplay is basically a dungeon crawler.  Battles are initiated similar in Xenosaga.  You roam an area, when you come into contact with an enemy, the battle starts.  In this game, if you strike an enemy to start a battle, that player gets an extra turn.  The actual battle system is similar to Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits.  The entire Gameplay design comes brilliantly together to form a fantastic work of art.

The story as well is fantastic.  The story of a near-reject who meets a mysterious girl and finds an unknown power within him.  The entire story then goes through a tale of mystery.  Characterization is also very solid.

The music and sound is excellent.  This game features an excellent musical score and brilliant sound effects.

Now, what puts this game under the likes of Xenosaga, Suikodeni 3, and Final Fantasy X would probably be the presentation and difficulty.  This game seems to be lackluster in presentation and the difficulty may scare some people.  Other than that, a marvelous game.
