When I first heard of this game back in January 2004, I instantly thought that this game was doomed from the start. I had low expectations fot this game mainly because it was based on a movie. Back in the SNES days from when I could remember, these such games always were terrible in every way. There have been some minor exceptions to this "rule" but for the most part, movie based games tend to suck.
With great pleasure, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is a fantastic game. This game blends action, First Person Shooting, Stealth, and even some fighting elements all into one awesome game.
This game shows a relativly new type of graphics technique called "Normal Mapping." This sure is an amazing technique. The graphics are absolutely one of the best I have seen on Xbox. I am not joking when I say this. This is a very gorgeous game. Environments are something I have never seen before and each character has an amazing look to them.
The Gameplay is terrific. This game at heart is a First Person Shooter. Besides the stypical shooting, this game also features stealth elements (and the ability to sneak up behind someone and break their necks) and a very nice hand to hand fighting system. The game itself is very linear and basically follows the story of Riddick's escape from Butcher Bay.
Another amazing feature is the music and sound. From things like the firing of the guns to the catchy musical scores, this game features amazing sounds.
There is no online multiplayer in this game but one may see his friends list on Xbox Live and recieve game invites as well.
Overall, The Chronicles of Riddick is one of the better Xbox titles to come out for the system.
