I have never been a fan of tactical FPSs, but after playing the demo of R6V I knew I had to try the full game. The graphics and animation were good, but the controls were excellent. Sending your squad to certain spots and getting them to execute commands is easy as pie. Good pie.
The full game exceeded my expectations in almost every way. The settings are colorful and interesting, the action is intense, the audio work is excellent (if a little repetitive), and the game is just plain fun.
What really surprised me though was the experience on Xbox Live. My Live Gold subscription has gone mostly unused because my other games aren't that great online, but R6V changed that. Now I'm online for an our or two every night, doing terrorist hunts and ranking up. The rank system really grabs you by the balls and makes you want to play more. I am merely a Sgt., but hopefully I can become an officer within the next couple of weeks. The Live setup has so many different game types that pretty much anyone can find something they like.
On the down side, the story is pretty much superfluous and the single player campaign is somewhat short. But in the end, the Live experience makes up for all of the game's shortcomings. I can't wait for the next one.
