What can I do, but exasperate another sigh of disappointment at this latest insipid Xbox release. What happened to the future of console gaming that we were promised, it just seems that us owners of the Xbox (well I do) just rush forth and purchase any semi-promising new release only to be let down again and again for our loyalty (which is rapidly waning) for the platform. I should have saw the warning signs when I caught on an interview one of the Lucas Arts developers mentioning that the game used a modified 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' game engine. Though I enjoyed 'Buffy' to a degree, I found this to be a half decent franchise portal. It seems from 'Indy' that the modifications have taken away some of the fun aspects of 'Buffy', like the additional moves and power-ups that were available. At the basics the game has horrible camera angles and no imagination in the puzzles or level designs. Worse, there is nothing really that different to do, you move, whip, jump, swim (swimming is a laugh as Indy seems to be a turbo charged swimmer and is quite difficult to control), this is fine for 10 minutes, but you sound realize that with the expectation on pulling a few levers that this is all the game seems to offer. What happened to variety, or interaction with other things in the environment (like vehicles), or how about an open end playable world like 'Morrowind', obviously these things require more than the few weeks of planning that this game seems to have received. This title lacks any of the spirit, humor or imagination that the other Indian Jones games seemed to have, to such a degree that after a couple of hours I had to stop playing it as it was starting to even taint my love for the film trilogy. And let me explain, that I love the films so much that my online handle even derives from the titles, so it takes a lot to turn me off from them.
So, I was suckered in by desperation for something good to play on the Xbox and the Indy association, they got my $50, hopefully I may have saved you wasting yours and maybe the developers will try a lot harder next time to give the franchise a game it trolley deserves and not a cheap 'Tomb Raider' imitation. I am so hoping that the forth coming 'Star Wars' games for the Xbox are an improvement on this – they are my last hope.
