For Tolkien fans like me, this game was a long time in coming to the Gamecube.  If it's action straight out of the movies you want, you'll definitely want to check out EA's addition to the Gamecube library.  What it lacks in length or puzzle aspects, it makes up for easily with pure fun value and DVD-like extra features.  A purely fun experience, not to be missed by any action, Tolkien, or other fans.

Gameplay is mainly of the hack-and-slash variety, with a choice of three heros to use on almost all of the levels.  Aragorn the ranger has well-balanced attacks, and is strong with both bow and sword.  He's the best character to begin with.  Legolas the elf is the best ranged attacker, with deadlier aim, arrows, and speed than his counterparts.  Unfortunately, even with two knifes, his short-range attacks are somewhat limited.  Gimli can swing his axe with the best of them, but his throwing axes carry little punch.  Leveling up and upgrading characters also adds to the fun factor.

Graphics are simply spectacular, all throughout the game.  The first thing you'll notice when playing the game is the way that actual scenes from the first two movies are blended into in-game cutscenes.  Those are then blended into the beginning of the level.  This has the overwhelming effect of playing the movie, not just a game based on it.  Explosions and flying arrows are all part of the beautiful spectacle.  Breathtaking.

With speech from the actors and music from both the 'Fellowship' and the 'Two Towers,' this game has excellent sound.  The blows and grunts of battle will draw you straight into the melee.
