From time to time in between golfing on Tiger Woods 07 or going to the field in Battlefield I like the occasional thrill of the hunt. Bagging a large Moose or Bear. Cabela's Alaskan Adventure seemed to offer a lot of excellent hunting action with even a twist this time throwing in fishing and dog sledding. I figured that with the Xbox 360 they would have done a lot on new things with the graphics and game play. But this title falls way short of what is now expected of a 360 title.
The menu system is very tedious moving around. I found myself exiting the outpost several times by mistake only to have to wait for the outpost to reload. When in the outpost which is where you equip your hunter I found you had to purchase items then go to another area to equip the items. Again exiting and loading into the outpost again several times. This whole process of getting ready for the hunt had me so frustrated I almost felt bad for the rabbit I shot over 30 times to release my loading time anger.
For the hunt you take what you might call quests to go kill 1 Male and 1 Female moose. To do this you walk from the outpost and LOAD into a new area. The graphics look great if it were 1995. The snow falling is in your face 2d graphics and actually ruin the experience ALOT.
As for the AI of the creatures they are on a set pattern. A big circle. Miss a rabbit? Wait it will float back by in a bit. Also its way too easy to find the targets. You walk a little bit and boom your target is standing there waiting. What I did like is the animal cam that follows the bullet to the target. This is one cool feature.
I could keep writing for another 10 paragraphs on this title but as Cabela's Alaskan Adventure falls way short of a 360 title I won't waste any more font on this.
Over all game I give this title a 2 out of 10.
