I decided to save reviewing this game for a few months because I didn't want my review to be based on initial impressions.
Metroid Prime deserves the backing it's been getting. It's that good.
The graphics are outstanding, to start off with. Everyone know the extra little goodies the programmers added, so i won't go into details about them.
The music and sound are great. I did find myself disappointed that the old familiar bomb sound didn't make it into this version.
The almost non-existant plot is good, as the deeper into the game you get, the more you find (you do have to search for it!) out about the history of the Chozo/Metroids/Space Pirates.
There is a psychology to this game that I have never seen before in a videogame. The sense of isolation is overwhelming, and the first meeting between Samus and the Metroid still sends a chill down my spine, considering how she reacts to other monsters in the game.
The controls do take some getting used to, but after an hour, you'd wish all games controled this good.
Metroid Prime is without a doubt the best game Nintendo has had on a system in years. Others would argue that it's the best game ever to hit a game system.
Metroid Prime: Just one or two notches below perfection.
