I'll never learn...
I still don't understand the appeal of this series. Why do I need to simulate real life, when I've already got one? But because so many people love this series to pieces, every so often I take another look to see if maybe I'll finally "get it".
So it was with that in mind that I tried this latest installment... but I found it to be the same old tedious exercise that it's always been. Eat, pee, and read the newspaper. Can't they think of some other way to start these games?! I just don't have time to sit around simulating stuff I've got to do anyway. Eating, peeing and reading the paper already take up enough of my day; I don't need to double that time by participating in virtual versions of the same activities!
Other random annoyances: maybe it's the switch to a 3-d engine, but this game seems far less responsive than the earlier ones. Every time I'd execute a command, there was so much lag I wasn't sure whether or not it worked. Also, the icons are far too small to be useful. I could barely make out what most of them were supposed to signify.
Given that I hate the premise, and was annoyed by the controls and interface, is there anything good I can say about this game? Well, it's not the ugliest game in the world. And the soundtrack didn't make my ears bleed. Kudos!
Bottom line: If this game is for you, you already know who you are. If you're not sure, then it's not for you.
