Sequels almost never live up to their predecessors. But lately that trend has come to a halt, starting with Jak II. This sequel to the surprise-hit of 2001, Jak & Daxter, Jak II exceeds the first and more.
The first thing that stands out is the fact that Jak II isn't just a kiddie platformer. This one is for the more mature gamer. The dialogue can be crude and witty along with some mild profanity. Although this might sound tasteless to some, it definitely adds great character into the people.
Another aspect that is prominent is the fact that there's almost no loading! The whole game is centered around this GIANT free-roaming environment which contains almost no loading whatsoever. When you enter a house, you enter a house, no loading screen or anything. The other big feature is Jak's use of guns. Throughout the game you only receive four (compared to the giant sum in Ratchet and Clank). But these four are greatly varied and help you to advance cooly.
For those of you who think platformers are too easy, give this one a shot. The challenges are hard. Almost nothing is accomplished on the first try. I remember I got so frustrated on this stupid mission I went on a rampage killing all these Krimzon Guards (guards that control the town).
You might die cheaply a couple times then have to restart, but it definitely adds to the challenge. But as you'll probably notice, no challenge is out of your reach.
And holy be-jesus! The graphics are incredible! And so fluid! The cartoony look doesn't seem like it can be a wonderous sight...but when you think about it, this is the best looking cartoon you've ever seen.
The camera is also great. I only faced a problem a couple of times. And seriously, what platformer doesn't give you problems with the camera?
Want a good challenge?
Get Jak II.
