Boxing At It's Best!!
As far as gameplay, VB is unmatched. Victorious Boxers is second to only the classic Punch-Out! series. The game stars Ippo while on his quest to become Japan's premiere boxing champion. That's the basis of the story. The gameplay is where the game shines. You can unlock upto 44 boxers, each with a unique style and balance. The controls are simple to learn within the first few fights. The fighting is very realistic- throw too many power punches and you'll tire out. You need skill to win, and button smashers will be sent down to the canvas. The gameplay isn't as sluggish as Knockout Kings, and it is deeper than the shallow Ready 2 Rumble series. On the downside Victorious Boxers is lacking in presentation. The graphics don't take full advantage of the PS2's capabilities. The sound could have been better, and more options like Create a Boxer or a manual Instant Replay system could have been included like in EA's Knockout Kings series. There should also be certain things added to enhance replay value. Even with these problems, Victorious Boxers is a fun game that atleast deserves a rental. If the sequel gets a tweaking, the PS2 will have an A+ boxing series at their hands.
Pros: Great Gameplay, Diverse Boxers, Animation
Cons: Repetitive Dialogue, Weak Storyline, Lack of Options
