Pokemon Puzzle Challenge is a fun puzzle game that even non-Pokemon fans can enjoy. The Pokemon theme doesn't really matter at all, as you don't need to know anything about Pokemon to do well.
It plays similar to Tetris, but you have to match same-colored blocks in order to make them disappear. You get extra points by executing combos and chains. There are several modes of gameplay, each with its own special challenge. The main game mode is the challenge mode. In this, you use your puzzle skills in matches against a sequence of gym leaders that get progressively harder as you go along. Depending on the difficulty setting, you may have to face the elite four or other mysterious figures. Another fun mode is the puzzle mode. You have to try to clear all the blocks on the screen in a pre-set amount of moves. These also get much harder as you move up in the levels. There is also a 2-player mode in which you can battle against a friend.
The music is a collection of light-hearted, cheery tunes that most Pokemon fans will recognize. The songs can get annoying after awhile, as they tend to repeat over and over during the long matches. The sound effects are appropriate for the game, and your Pokemon will make distinctive sounds when you score long chains or combos.
Anyone who likes Pokemon or addictive puzzle games will have a good amount of fun with this game. It won't last for an extra long while, but it should provide the average gamer with a decent amount of playtime. Definitely worth a look in my book.
