The new, completely reworked battle system is great. You can see the order in which the characters will attack. This adds a surprising amount of strategy. There aren't many random battles and most battles go fairly quickly. Character development is done through a new system in which you gain new skill by a map which is like a maze. What skills you get and how fast you get them depends on you. It seems complex on the outside but is really simple. The biggest problem with this game is that it's really easy. And the side-quests either lack the fun factor or are annoying. The BlitzBall mini-game is fun and deep though, you will spend many hours with it. The game can be finished in about 40 hours.
FFX looks excellent, the best looking Final Fantasy yet. The characters and monsters are very highly detailed but their design isn't very good. The environments are beautiful and very nice to look at. The attention to detail is very high but there is some very minor slowdown. The special effects are also great. The FMVs are the jaw dropping, they look so nicely done.
The game's sound is the best aspect. The presentation of the game in Dolby Digital is done wonderfully. You won't believe how nice the surround sound is! The voice acting is really good but at times, it sounds like the voice actors didn't practice. The music is good for the most part but nothing that amazes. There should have been better tracks. There are no memorable tracks that really shine.
The story is good and really unpredictable. The ending really seemed like they wanted to do something shocking but ended up with something that was rather weak. The characters are lively but their personalities are very similar and boring. It felt as if all of them belong in day time soap operas.
Final words: A refreshing Final Fantasy game but there is room for improvement.
