There are some wonderful landscapes in this game. They are vast and look great. The environments are very active and lively with many things happening all around. Most of the characters and monsters also look great. The character designs are good for the most part but some of them are not. The biggest problem with the graphics is the slowdown. It's nothing bad but it is there. Also, there is polygon break-up… something that shouldn't be there at all.
The game sounds great though sometimes there aren't any sound effects. The voice acting is also great but again, sometimes it misses. The music is very emotional and fitting for each environment and situation.
The gameplay is really great. You have to go around, solve puzzles, take pictures, defeat monsters, earn credits/pearls and uncover an evil plot. The game is extremely fun! There are just so many things to do and to find. You have a hovercraft (later a ship) that you use to get around in and you will have to upgrade it to gain access to new areas. The action button takes care of most things (push a button, attack, etc.) and changes when necessary. The game combines picture taking with fighting and stealth to create a very enjoyable experience. There are many mini-games that you can play as well. The game plays very similar to Zelda games. The game is rather short though, even with all the extras. It will only take 10-12 hours on average. The camera is a bit irritating at times but it's not that bad.
The story is unexpectedly good. I was expecting only a background plot but the actual plot is really deep and engrossing. There are many moving parts and you will be able to feel what Jade is feeling. My only complaint about the story is the lack of explanation of some things and a bit of the ending.
Final words: One of the best games of the year. A must play title!
