Gameplay is what makes this game feel so old school. You move around, shooting your opponents while try to get power ups, like in traditional 2D shooters of the past. But the sheer number or enemies and their attack forms will make you sweat and think like you never have before. If that's not enough, there is a white/black element that comes into play. You can change the color of you ship at any given moment. Get hit with attacks that are the same color as your ship, then you absorb the energy (which can be released as some massive attacks). If you get hit with one of opposite color, you take damage. One more thing, this is one HARD game. It made me burst out in tears and break things in anger, but it also made me come back for more. This game will last a long time due to it's difficulty and will is very satisfying to finish.
While this game isn't technologically advanced, it is artistically beautiful. The game looks great, there's no doubt about that. Everything moves smoothly and the special effects are just plain amazing. If there is anything wrong with the graphics, it's that it hasn't received any facelifts from the Japanese only Dreamcast version.
The game sounds superb in stereo, nothing to complain about in the sound department. The music is great and paces right with the action.
Final words: This is a great old school shooter that offers that offers one hell of a challenge.
