Call of Duty is one of the finest WWII shooters out there. You play as various different solider from the Allied forces on Solo or squad based missions. The single player mode is very well done with a combination of great gameplay, graphics and sound.
The gameplay is just a bare bones FPS. The controls are very responsive and the game itself is very easy to learn. You traverse through many levels and complete objectives. The game plays very smoothly and offers up some exciting levels and missions. The squad based missions, where you are a part of a group of soldiers, are great. You have to battle with your comrades and figure out how to get from point A to point B and to keep you follow soldiers alive (yes, they die). Of course, they're no sitting cows… They fight along side you though you always play the role of a more important solider. The game offers up some tense battles and a great variety of missions. My only complaints are that the AI could've been a bit smarter (sometimes, it's just stupid) and the difficulty seems inconsistent. The game lasts a good 12-14 hours and there is an online multiplayer mode, but that's nothing special but it will still provide some fun battles.
The game looks are great, especially if your system meets the recommended specs. There are a while variety of character designs and level designs. Everything seems historically accurate. But the game had some problems while I played. Sometimes, after a big explosion the game ran intolerably bad (almost a one frame per second) before returning to normal after a few seconds. Also, the attention to detail isn't exactly outstanding.
The audio experience is absolutely astounding. The game sounds great and the sound effects are excellent. The sound is never off and the voices are excellent. The music is very well done and always fitting.
Story wise, the game is pretty much taken from history class. But instead of just one soldier, you play as many which makes it interesting.
Final words: An excellent shooter for the PC. Definitely give this one a try.
