Wario is back for another batch of mini-games for the short-attention-spanned gamer and this time, he's on the DS. The DS's unique features all come into play in this frenzy of mini-games, there are around 100 mini-games and they're just as fun and addicting as his previous foray for your money.
So there are two types of games really: some of them use the touch screen and some of the use the mic. Most of the games use the touch screen to have you 'slice' or 'rotate' or 'drag' to compete the necessary task. For the games that use the mic, all you really have to do is… blow, but it has to be time. The top screen comes into play at times but usually it's nothing big. And that's really all there is to say about how the games are played.
It may sound like there are a limited number of options but the variety of mini-games is plentiful. Each character has a style of mini-game and as you keep going through them, the pace and difficultly of the games will increase. There are boss battles as well, which are nicely done.
The one problem with Touched is that the game ends very quickly. You can probably finish the game within 4-5 hours. There are reasons to go back and replay the game: to top your high score, unlock new toys (nifty little distractions), and unlock all the games for each character. Chances are you will come back for more since most of the mini-games are completely random and the game is so much fun.
You won't find any high quality, technically impressive graphics here. This game is more about a goofy style and that it does just fine. The graphics can range for simple lines to some nice backdrops. To compliment the visual style, the audio follows suite in that it has its own unique style too. The sound quality is good and the music/sound effects are well done even if they are a bit repetitive.
WarioWare Touched does a superb job of showing all the different gameplay possibilities with the DS. It's more like a collection of games rather than a single game except that each one of those games lasts for about 5 seconds. While it may not "wow" you with its audio/video, the gameplay is what makes this such a fantastic game.
Final words: an excellent title to show off the DS though it could've been a bit longer.
