Resident Evil has never really brought me in, I never have been a fan of the series. But on Christmas when I got my GameCube and was desperately searching for good Cube games, I saw this one had high reviews. I did soemthing, I usually don't do, I bought it without renting it first. Those types of games I usually rent because of the fact that they might be short and crappy. But this one, looked different.
Here's the review of Resident Evil 4.
I'm trying out a new system of reviewing games, based on importance of the categories.
Graphics (10)(2/2 in importance)
What can I say? The graphics are incredibly stunning. The particle effects are fantastic and the overall textures are beautiful. Not to mention the smooth as a babies butt frame rate. This is by far the best looking Cube game out there, myabe out of ANY game period.
Gameplay (10) (5/5 in importance)
This was a tough category to review. I didn't want to give it a 10 because no gameplay of any game is perfect, but I just can't find anything I don't like. The reloading and shooting techniques of this game is dead on and I like the style of it. Switching from knife to shotgun is simple and accesing maps and your case for weapons is a snap. No problems here.
Controls (9.5) (3.8/4 in importance)
The controls are perfect. As I said in the gameplay part, swithcing weapons is easy and camera angles are not a problem (most RE games evidentally had this problem to my knowledge. Only thing I don't like is having to press "B" to run. I can't stand that, I like pressure sensative thumbsticks that determine the speed at which you are running. It's understandable since your are SUPPOSED to be cautious. But sometimes forgetting that you have to push "B" for just a split second can mean that you lose your head, literally.
Story (10) (4/4 in importance)
Finally a good original story. They aim away form zombies and create something that's just like them. Ganados. They ar einfected by a parasite that controls it's host. So basically, they are like a zombie, but they are smart. Very original as you could obviosuly see they wanted to stay far away from the T-Virus thing and move onto something new. Very eerie creepy story.
Sounds/Voice overs (10) (2/2 in importance)
The sound in this game is marvelous, the music in this game can get you pumped up, or scared half to death. The voice overs sound like they were proffessionaly done and have great emotion into them. They aren't like the other Resident Evil games. (good thing)
Replayability (9) (4.5/5 in importance)
This to me is what makes or breaks a game, if it doesn't have good rpelayability then I won't score it too well. If I don't get my $50 worth then the game didn't do it's job. This game has great replayability thankfully. Although you have to play the same levels over again to get that rpelayability, you get all your weapons and unlock a few goodies to use through the game and you can continue buying and upgrading your weapons and even play on a harder difficulty.
Scare tactics (+1) The game gets and added point for being the first game to actually make me get so freaked out I had to pause the game to settle down.
