One of the first and better RPGs featured on the PS2 as this game offers a more inventive battlesystem that actually makes a random battle enjoyable rather than a hassle.
You start off as a young man, Ryudo who is a Geohound, and he is requested to accompany a young lady, Elena, through the Black Forest to get to a mysterious tower. Once inside the tower, however, something dreadfully happens. The story becomes very enthralling as there are nice plot twists throughout the game. Nice plot twists equals interest longevity so the story is one of the many highlights of this game.
The game's battlesystem is absolutely the best aspect of this game as this is a battlesystem like no other. In battle, there is an IP bar in which you are able to influence your position or the enemie's position on the bar by either knocking them back so you can get more turns of attack, or you can perform a specific move to move your
player further ahead on the bar. There are also magic coins, special coins, and eggs that allow your charatcer to learn their own distinct special attacks. This original battlesystem makes an encounter far more enjoyable as battles are fast paced and fun.
The game is full of color as everything from the characters to the environments are rich in texture. The graphics are no Final Fantasy but it seems to fit perfectly with the rest of the game. The game also features good voice-overs because it fits with each character's personality.
The game, however, has a few shortcomings as this is a port. The game has quite a few slowdowns throughout the game as that can become increasingly annoying. The text box can also be at times very slow, so you find your self waiting in some instances.
Other than a few flaws, this game is a must play for any RPG gamer as the battle system itself is more than reason enough to give this game a playthrough.
