I have had some great moments in Planetside and some very ....cough...boring moments.
Maybe sharing a good moment will give a good "feel" for the game...
I joined my usual PS server and found a dropship (Galaxy) parked outside the spawn area at sanctuary - loaded with heavies and players - but no driver. So I run back inside and used my prescious cert points to get a certifcate to fly a Galaxy, jumped onboard and shouted "first time - where you guys want to go?". Turned out they were a squad - and they invited me to join and we were off - through the warp gate and straight to one of our bases under heavy attack - but being defended strongly. They asked me to fly direct over the base from where they hot dropped in and reaked great damage. Me - I landed (err... crash landed the Galaxy)
On the ground I found myself with light armour/weapon and a strong assault from New Congomerate under way. I've been here before - it is like shooting peas at a tank - so I hopped into a wall turrett - and hey - promptly mowed down 4 incoming - 1 heavy (took a LOT of bullets, 2 regular and a cloaked guy who thought he was about to break in). So far so good - but then - wham - they killed our generator, the base went neutral and my turret no longer worked :-(
I jumped out to find 2 friendly tanks and air cover had appeared from one of our nearby bases and they were repelling well - so I took my chance to head for a powered tower nearby to re-equip - and got there just as an enemy jeep came in, rockets firing and nearly took me out before hacking the tower and left. I was now stuck in a tower of another team hiding - but hey - if they can hack then so can I - so in a 60 second hack i won back the empty tower - JUST as an enemy heavy appeared and chased me to the roof. Now, in the past I would have tried to shoot him - but I know that with the gun I had it would take 150+ rounds - and that wasn't going to happen. My solution - cat and mouse with nades. I would run to the roof - lob 4 nades at him and then as he set chase jump over the wall back to ground - load up with 4 nades and do again - this completely baffled him as I could see on my radar that he was running round and round the roof (it was my empires base now - so my radar!). After 6 hits I unleashed a clip - and wham took him out. One more guy tried it on - he died too. Yipppeeeeeeeeee
