Opener:

Frogger is one of the original color arcade games I remember playing very young, and I believe the first Konami game I ever played.  All these years later through Majesco comes a modern graphical frontend to one of the most classic and original arcade games of its time, Frogger.  The premise of the game was quite simple, survival over the obstacles in front of you blocking a straight path to the top part of the screen.

Graphics
The graphics in this enhanced version of the original Frogger are a pretty nice enhancement over the original.  Though I would have loved it if the old original graphical version of the game was included, but I won't hold it against the game.  Each of the original items on screen have been graphically enhanced, yet everything still is in its same place as it was long ago.  On the title and menus we are given some semi-funny pictures of the frogger frog looking worried or looking somewhat dead as you can see below.  While those pictures aren't the most colorful, the in game graphics are.  The detail of the graphics in both areas of the game are pretty nicely detailed.

Sound
The sound of this version of Frogger is somewhat sparse at best.  A great bit added into the game is the original theme from the old arcade accurately done on the title screen when it pops up.  This tune is also played on the start of a game as well, but is sadly almost the most entertaining piece in the game.  While there is a neat little diddy that plays when you finish a stage, the rest of the effects are a bit bland.  The bland effects are little beeps that sound not really good even compared to the fun beeps from the age old classic.

Theme & Fun
The theme and fun of this game rests in its original layout even pretty much to this very date.  The concept of the game was to get your frog across the screen into all 5 safe havens to advance to the next level.  Blocking your path are vehicles, turtles (some which flip over), logs, gators and more which all move at different speeds and directions.  The game is pretty fun to keep going at even though is at heart is just a simple point racking game.

Play Control
The play control of Frogger is pretty decent and maintains its original feel pretty well.  Your frog can move in 4 different directions in equally ranged jumps.  This can be the old problem with the control as you can't inch onto the ledge of a log to sneak in your next jump to survival.  Other than that issue with the game the controls are very smooth and responsive.

Challenge
The challenge of Frogger is one that grows very quickly as soon as you pass off the first stage.  Once you advance the first slow moving stage thing will really heat up.  From this point on you will have to deal with twice as much or more road traffic.  The logs and turtles move quicker and are a more sparse as the stages progress.  The turtles will also flip over a lot more and a frog eating gator will appear making the trip across all the more difficult.  Once you get use to it all though the challenge is still decent but you can get used to it given a little work.

Replay Value and Closing Notes:
The replay value of this title is moderate at best if you are just a casual arcade game player.  If you really enjoy arcade games though, or are an old fan of Konami's Frogger then you will play this one over and over again.

I used to be somewhat a fan of this game and I feel this update did the old game justice.  Unless you are a huge arcade and/or Frogger fan and do have interest in the title I suggest a rental before purchase.
