A bit better than average platformer with some fun twists to make you think a little. Blackthorne combines shotgun combat with some uglies, with a bit of tactical ingenuity to make for a pretty decent title. On a small level the game feels a bit like the PC (and SNES) classic Flashback. You can blast your way out of a situation with your trusty boomstick or blow things up with a remote detonator or grenade, but also keys maybe needed to pop a lock or make a bridge appear. Exploration is needed because you can find stuff even at times down what could be a bottomless pit you just covered with that bridge key. Fun and challenging, it does battery save, but only at waypoints to add to the challenge.
