Dear God why oh why was this game only single player? I guess the first in a series is always the worst, and I say this is the worst cause the 'first' is actually a one on one fighter on the ps that really didnt work all that well, IMHO. Koei only started the big ol battle deal with DW2 and I think the huge, major, catastrophic, gigantic error is limiting it to single player monotony. Anyone remember playing streets of rage? It wasnt all that fun when you played it alone, was it? But when you got a buddy to hop in with you, the game opened up something feirce. That is the way these beat em ups are supposed to be. Sometimes it can work (mark of kri, shinobi, gungrave (in a way)) but even though, all of those titles would have seriously upped the fun factor if they had a multiplayer mode. Imagine if Virtual Fighter 4 was one player? Catch my drift? All games could do infinitely better with an option to have a friend hop in and assist. The cinematics of DW2 are pretty slickly done and I am sure that in more recent iterations they have been improved, but seeing as DW2 is a three year old game and it isnt printed on an actual DVD, it looks fine. The in game graphics, however, could have been better. There is character pop-up and since it is trying to pull off 30 plus people on screen at a time, I cant help but feel dissapointed. Again, it could have been better. The music is such a let down. I love hard rock and metal, but it is so darn repetitive that it almost makes me sick that you have these campains that could last 50 minutes or so and you are stuck listening to the same riff over and over and over and over and over and over. Makes me wish that the ps2 had a custom soundtrack option. Oh well... for what it's worth, it is an ok game, but I would personally sugguest you dont buy this unless it is dirt cheap cause you would rather spend your money on something like DW3 or DW4.
Both are much more worth your money and both feature multiplayer split screen.
'nuff said.
