The fact that this Metroid is an FPS almost made me write this game off before I finished the opening scene, but I preserved and it paid off. Once Metroid Prime takes you to the planet surface and gets back to its exploration roots, it reminded me why I was so excited about the evolution of this series to the GameCube. Sure, this title would have been better in 2D (and much less clumsy), but it really is amazing to see Metroid from this perspective. As a matter of fact, that is the main reason I enjoyed Metroid Prime. It's just absolutely gorgeous to look at, and it's thrilling to see the classic Metroid elements fleshed out in three dimensions. You should definately give Prime a go, as it really is a great experience that, at times, shines bright.
