Smoothest and best programmed PC game ever, just not as groundbreaking as Halife 1.
I think the fact that as great as Halflife 2 is, only in a few points did it really wow me. I'm horribly jaded I admit it, whats a guy to do?
Though as great as the game is I feel it does fall down on a few points. The cool storyline and plot are never fully realized. Its a good story, especially early on yet its not good enough to make you believe you're doing anything other than playing a FPS. Somehow Halflife 1 with less real 'story' and less dialogue managed to feel much more realisitc.
The AI seems a step back from Halflife 1, no more wet your pants scenes with the Marines storming your position radioing to each other.
There are so many cool things in Halflife 2 though that you can forgive minor flaws. Being a bug commander is awesome(dont worry you'll understand if you play), the vehicle levels feel arcadey but are extremely fun, the robot buddy is extremely excellent, the new weapon is the most interactive weapon ever anygame that can make a table a deadly weapon gets 2 thumbsup. The animation in this game is unrivalved by any other PC game or console game for that matter, they work miracles on the PC I didnt think was possible. The last level is incredibly cool and is high on the wow factor without being extremely hard.
And to top it all off they throw in the amazing Counterstrike Source for free, something they could have easily charged for if they'd have wanted to.
An amazing and cool game this is, yet without the same 'we are witnessing the birth of genius' feeling we all had when playing Halflife 1.
Still every PC gamer must have this game, its really just as simple as that.
