Back in the day when we were playing paper D&D, this is the computer game we all imagined.

Atmospheric dungeon crawls, with flickering torch and creepy monsters around every corner.

Huge world to freely explore and go and do as you choose.

Freedom to develop your character in the direction you want, and lots of classes and skills that matter in the game.

Skill based combat and skill based thievery. Paper based RPGs cant come close to Oblivion in this regard.

The really great thing about Oblivion is all the cool little touches the game has that breathes life into it. The books with stories, the way houses are intelligently stocked with items. The hours and hours of speech put into the characters in the world.

I've read some complaints about 'flaws' in the game and would like to address them.

First theres been a lot of complaints about creatures 'matching' the toughness of the player. Well with Oblivions open ended nature this is a must. Some people explore for days and days at a time. Some people explore maybe 25% of the time. Some people dont explore at all and simply want to do the main quest. If the designers didnt create a system that tries to give some parity between creatures and the player people would be a lot more upset if they felt they were being forced to do 'boring side quests' to complete the game.

Another complaint was about thievery, and how Oblivion differed from Morrowind. Well lets face reality if in real life you got arrested for thievery or murder and had a bunch of suspicious items on you they would be conficated. Oblivion is no different in fact people should be thankful they let you keep anything.

Overall I cant express how great this game is. Yes it requires a top line system, but wow the rewards in this game are huge. This is the RPG I've been waiting for since the days of paper RPGs.

If any part of you likes classic paper RPGs or classic computer RPGs this is the game of a lifetime. I rank it a 10 all the way!
