I am now and have always been a huge Star Wars fan. While I don't think the new movies are as good as the old ones, I was very anxious to play this game. Overall, it is better than a lot of Star Wars games. However, it still leaves a little bit to be desired.
The gameplay is fairly entertaining, but just doesn't seem inspired. I like that there are a variety of lightsaber attacks, but the fact that they are controlled by only two buttons seems to take something away from the action. A variety of force powers are also nice, but the fact that many of them can only be used at certain well-marked spots ruins a lot of their potential. The fact that certain powers and techniques (like blocking with your lightsaber) drain force powers also seems weird. I find it hard to believe that my jedi can swing his weapon endlessly while I push a button, but holding it virtually still would weaken him.
The controls are not as responsive as I would have liked. The fact that characters seem to face certain enemies who are off-screen while getting shot in the back by the much larger enemy behind them is highly annoying.
The voice acting seems like it was phoned in by actors trying to impersonate the stars. I would have rather played a game featuring people who sounded nothing like the actors in the film, but were excited about what they were doing.
The graphics are one of the areas where the game excels, and there is excellent use of scenes from the film to introduce different chapters. The music is excellent and really helps to set the tone of the game.
The game does offer many upgradeable and unlockable abilities, and sports a variety of bonus features for extended gameplay. This offers a good amount of replay value for your money.
Overall, this is a pretty good game; it just fails to live up to the source material. People looking for a great Star Wars experience should definitely pick up Battlefront I or II over this title. Gamers who just love hack'n'slash or really love the Star Wars universe would not be disappointed by this title, and it's worth at least a rental.
